What information do we collect from you and why

Comments

When visitors leave comments on our site, we store the information in the comment along with the visitor’s IP address and UA string that helps them to detect spams.

An anonymous connection created from the visitor’s email address may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if the visitor is still active. Upon the approval of the visitor’s comment, their profile picture is shown to the public based on the circumstances of the comment box.

Media

When uploading media to the website, try to avoid uploading images that have embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors can download and extract all the location data from the media files that are uploaded in the website.

Cookies

When you comment on anything on our site, you may agree to save your personal information such as your name, email address and website in cookies. They are used for your convenience so that you don’t have to go through the whole process again while leaving another comment. These cookies are stored for 1 year.

If you create an account on our site and log in, we put a short-term cookie to check if your web browser accepts cookies or not. This temporary cookie doesn’t contain any personal information and is discarded when you close the browser.

When you log in, we set up a few cookies to save your login information and your screen display preferences. These cookies are stored only for two days and screen options cookies are discarded after one year. If you select “Remember Me” while logging in, your login information will be saved for two weeks. But if you sign out of your account, the login cookies will not be there anymore.

If you publish or edit an article, an extra cookie will be saved in your web browser. This cookie also doesn’t contain any personal information and only functions with the post ID of the article that you edited. It is discarded after a day.

How long we retain your data

When you comment on something, that comment and the metadata are acquired for an indefinite period of time. This is to recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of putting them in a moderation queue.

For the users who sign up on our website, we retain the personal information they use in their profile. The users are able to see, edit or even delete their personal information if they want at any time. However, the username is not changeable. The website admins also can see and edit that information if necessary.

What rights you have over your data

If you have created an account on our website or left any comments, you have the right to request and receive an exported file that includes all the personal information we have stored on you so far. You can also ask to remove all of your personal information that we have on you. However, this excludes the data we are obligated to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments might be inspected through an automated spam detection service.
